This national art award exhibition celebrates excellence in contemporary art across a range of media. It showcases the work of over forty finalists, including this year’s winning piece, Tropical Flesh (ii), 2023, by Nathan Beard – a silicone sculpture of decaying jackfruit layered on top of a cast foot. The judges commented: “Nathan’s work is intriguing in that it talks to a variety of themes. It’s a meditation on diaspora, it connects food with culture and talks to his familial heritage. It talks about mortality while being playful.”
