Taring Padi: Tanah Tumpah Darah

Yogyakarta-based art collective Taring Padi incorporate art, theatre and music as a means of spreading awareness of the cultural and social history of Indonesia.

The exhibition title is a poetic phrase dating back to the Indonesian revolution and independence in 1945, conveying an emotional nostalgia for the motherland; recently reclaimed by Indonesian activists as a collective chant against deforestation and land grabs across the archipelago. Here, the group undertake a residency and series of public programs with Aboriginal art collective proppaNOW, developing a political art banner project together.
