Tim Johnson: Open Source

‘Open Source’ is a reference to a computer program that involves others in its production and use. More specifically, it refers to the collaborative nature of work as well as to the sourcing of imagery and the undefined possible interpretations and meanings.

Collaborations with Daniel Bogunovic, Karma Phuntsok and Yiwon Park has produced works with imagery influenced partly by their cultural background and personal interests which include UFO’s, crop circles and Tibetan Buddhist. Johnson’s own interests lie in Chinese and Japanese Buddhism, in the Papunya painting movement and in conspiracy theory, adding additional layers of meaning to each work.
