Ildiko Kovacs’ Abstract paintings are gestural and spontaneous renderings of colour and line. Her paintings rely on gesture and speak of painting as a physical act that relates to bodily movement. The processes of layering, accumulating and removing paint over time are also central aspects of Kovacs’ practice.
“When I am painting I am looking for form that comes out of the unexpected,” Kovacs explains. “Things are wiped away and reworked, new lines weave and overlap existing lines. Through action and energy rhythm is inspired. There is a domino effect of images disappearing behind new lines, a history develops with traces and remnants of past marks. There comes a moment when everything falls into place and the painting feels right and complete.”
