Newcastle-based Michelle Teear is known for working in the medium of egg tempera; a queer disabled woman – her remote landscape subjects represent freedom from marginalising frameworks, creating neutral spaces to anchor perspective.
In Expansion, rocky outcrops and quiet waterholes become contemplative gateways to inner landscapes – cracked escarpments shaped under pressure. Having observed spring floodplains erupt in a flush of billy buttons and wild daisies during a month in Western Queensland’s Channel Country, intuitive mark making becomes a pathway to self-expansion and connection with unconscious memory.
