“We have some exceptional public art murals across the Coast and this one will be a wonderful addition,” Cr Baberowski said.

“The quality of entries received was exciting to see and the task of selecting the winner was a difficult one.

“The winning artists were chosen for the strength of their collaboration and national and international experience.”

“I look forward to seeing the mural take shape during the opening weekend of the Horizon Festival.”

First Coat director Grace Dewer was thrilled with the quality of applications received from across Australia.

“More than 40 applications were received from artists, all hoping to paint the large-scale mural on the gallery wall and receive the $10,000 commission.

The 14 metre long mural will be created early September as a part of Horizon Festival.

In addition to the Regional Art Gallery wall painting Queensland based creative initiative, First Coat will be delivering three further mural projects, during Horizon Festival in September. In partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council, First Coat’s Regional Activation will focus on local artists to transform public space in Caloundra’s CBD.
