At Water’s Edge: Paul Blackmore at Edmund Pearce

Thursday night saw the book launch and exhibition opening of photographer Paul Blackmore’s collection At Water’s Edge – a substantial body of work spanning 11 years and 14 countries that explores the intimate relationship between humanity and its most vital natural resource: water.

Blackmore’s photographs poignantly illustrate the unfolding drama of the global water crisis and how it is directly affecting those caught up in it: a billion people without access to clean water, another four billion without an adequate supply. Against this dire backdrop, the work is also a celebration of our primal and spiritual bond with nature’s essential resource.

Since beginning the project in 2000 while living in Paris, Blackmore has traveled extensively to produce the work, shooting on his preferred medium of film rather than digital photography. The captivating images reveal the beauty of the intimate and often vulnerable relationship individuals have with water, whilst simultaneously making a powerful visual statement regarding the growing global situation of water scarcity.

Join Paul Blackmore for an artist talk and book signing tomorrow, Sat Sept 8, from 2pm.
