Kathryn Ryan
Edited by Claire Harris
Flinders Lane Gallery

An edition of 100, this monograph frames an expansive survey of Kathryn Ryan’s practice from 2000-2018. Across several chapters titled by exhibition, an array of images, essays and several artist statements reveal Ryan’s deep connection to the landscape, with much of her inspiration drawn from the coastlines and rural farmlands of South West Victoria. Ryan’s paintings and charcoals on paper are portrait-like renditions of the land seeming to interpret the solitude in nature’s own existence – its peace and its quiet.

‘Totally surrounded by light, space, horizon and a quiet stillness, you are brought closer to yourself there are no distractions; you are aware of your own presence.’ – Kathryn Ryan, 2001
