What’s On NEAR ME

Death In A Box
The aim of the exhibition is to provide viewers with insight into how art can destigmatize and unite people under the idea of death. Although it may feel uncomfortable, or something we want to distance ourselves from it, the Emergency Artistry Collective Exhibitions believe in art to bring positivity and light to this tough topic.

earth songs
Drawn primarily from the Gippsland Art Gallery’s permanent collection, ‘ earth songs’ challenges and extends our understanding of ‘landscape art’. The artists in the exhibition seek to discover the silent rhythms of nature, of life pulsating everywhere around us. The earth here is a spiritual entity, connecting us through ancient vibrations not seen but felt. The assembled artists share a receptiveness to these vibrations, filling their art with translations of their experiences. They seek not to mimic the seen but to express the intangible and emotional gravitas of life on earth through a variety of means. Cumulatively their ‘songs’ present a poignant picture of our evolving relationship to nature and our shifting place within its enfolds.

Pat Larter: Get Arted
‘Get Arted’ is the first solo presentation of Pat Larter’s oeuvre by a public institution and is drawn primarily from the Art Gallery of New South Wales’s National Art Archive. Co-curated by Lisa Catt and Claire Eggleston, the exhibition celebrates the performance art, film, mail art and painting of Larter who challenged conventions of female representation in a uniquely collaborative, humourous and provocative way; a transgressive practice which remains relevant today as we continue to think about progressing ideas of gender, the body and class.

Stillness
With varying mediums and perspectives on the isolation 2020 brought to our shores, four artists – Annette Kelsey, Kim Wilson, Liz Cunninghame and Cheryl Van Oyen – have interpreted the theme of stillness. Works move from abstraction to the romantic with each bringing something fresh to these unprecedented times.
