Natalie Popovski: Absorption

Absorption is an ongoing body of work driven by an innate curiosity in humans. Natalie Popovski uses the mundane to highlight subtle nuances in individuals in “indirect portraits,” paintings depicting her subject’s “stuff” – the seemingly insignificant corners of mess found in bathroom cabinets, kitchen benchtops, or bedside tables that you are unaware you keep, yet they outline your beliefs, personality, and daily rituals.

Popovski seeks the “sacred in the mundane, the moments of awe all around us that we dismiss so easily, the great novels being written right under our noses.”
