In 2016 the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco displayed a suite of ghost-net and other contemporary artworks from Indigenous communities in Tropical North Queensland and Ceduna in South Australia to underscore the beauty of our now compromised coral reefs. This premise and collection has been enriched with newly commissioned works from Pormpuraaw artists on show at the Paris Aquarium until 15 August, the Ethnographic Museum of Geneva to 8 January 2018 and the University of Virginia until 7 January 2018. Each presentation is unique and focuses on the need to curb the disastrous affect of ocean pollution and illegal fishing on traditional food sources, spiritual totems and marine ecosystems, and contributes to the larger project ‘Australia: Defending the Ocean’.
