Cairns Indigenous Art Fair

Christian Thompson’s practice combines photography with conceptual and performative elements to explore issues of identity, cultural hybridity and history. Thompson’s work engages with topics that affect and move both Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians, transcending cultural boundaries and speaking about the universal human experience. It is this merging of the culturally specific and universal which leaves a lasting impression.

Thomson’s work will feature at this month’s ‘Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’ (CIAF), a unique three-day event that merges an art market with a celebration of Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. On exhibition will be 13 Indigenous art centres and seven galleries, showcasing and selling the work of more than 300 artists.
