The Art Gallery of South Australia have long recognised the significance of Adelaide-based artist Catherine Truman in Australian contemporary jewellery and object making. It is fitting that her work be the subject of the Gallery’s 2016 exhibition for SALA – South Australian Living Artists Festival.
For thirty-five years, Truman has largely drawn inspiration from the anatomy of the human form, its movement, limitations and our obsessive drive to understand it. This inquisitive nature has led her to explore the relationship between art and science through detailed, miniature carvings. The works, although not entirely representative, are still deeply familiar.
