This exhibition follows Rossiter’s ongoing theme of commenting on people living under challenging circumstances, in this case, admiring Indian history but subtly addressing ancient traditions that now feed modern social issues. These works are well constructed, entertaining and the end product of previous visits and a 2013 residency that included many days of drawing in the museum at Sanskriti Kendra, Delhi.
These disparate, terracotta figures range from miniscule votive objects to massive deities. They vary in status, caste, religious and geographical backgrounds, but coexist together as one family in the same building complex – a significant example for all of us.
