Deep inside my heart

This exhibition pulls together new acquisitions and major works from the national collection, focusing on representations of the figure in art by women practitioners of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: Louise Bourgeois, Nancy Spero, Ana Mendieta, Lynda Benglis, Marlene Dumas, Kiki Smith, Bronwyn Oliver, Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, and I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih – particularly works from the 1980s that used the body to assert politics, gender and identity.

Highlights include Smith’s tapestries Sky, Earth, and Underground and a series of early sculptures by the late Oliver.
