Ella Dreyfus’ series of photographs follows the same group of young boys – all 12 of them from her son’s football team – first photographed at 12 years of age and now photographed once again seven years later.
Inspired by Michael Apted’s famous 7-Up films, Sue Ford’s Time portrait series and Nicholas Nixon’s ongoing portrait series, The Brown Sisters, Dreyfus intends to photograph the same group of young men every seven years, with their ongoing consent. This portrait series represents a powerful and evocative human narrative, depicting male youths firstly as they hover on the cusp of childhood and seven years later on the cusp of young adulthood.
