Best known as a sculptor, but with painting as a vital element of his practice, Illusion and Gravity presents Ron Robertson-Swann paintings and sculptures from the 1960s and 1970s, offering a rare insight into the early output of one of Australia’s most significant and enduring abstractionists.
Works are drawn directly from the artist’s collection, with the featured paintings from the same period as those exhibited in the 1968 National Gallery of Victoria exhibition, The Field, illustrating the artist’s interest in the physical dynamics and sculptural properties of painting.
