‘Illumination’ follows Jennifer Gabbay’s ongoing inspiration from travel experiences and her attraction to places both ancient and modern. She creates works from both the sorrow and pleasure in life and is influenced by the movements of the Fauves, German Expressionists and Abstractionists.
The reconfiguration of the traditional produces an illusion at times of painterly motion, a diffusion of light and colour where Jennifer’s images appear to shake with intensity. Jennifer strives for veracity and as Lucien Freud said, “The picture in order to move us must never merely remind us of life, but must acquire a life of its own”.
