Mina Mina Maranoa (Sandhills, Salt Lakes & Soakages)

Fireworks Gallery’s first exhibition for 2013 features new works by three major Indigenous Australian artists: Dorothy Napangardi, Judy Watson Napangardi and Joanne Currie Nalingu. The exhibition explores contrasting visual approaches to each artist’s country or homeland.

The sacred site of Mina Mina is explored, uniquely, by the Napangardi women – Dorothy using a monochromatic palette and dot technique for her paintings, where Judy’s compositions are made with a myriad of electric colours and shapes. Nalingu’s paintings, inspired by the Maranoa River at Mitchell where she grew up, are made in her renowned ‘river lines’ style.
