“Many academic fields of study have asked questions about the nature of art for a very long time; in particular, ‘what is art?’ seems forever to elude a final canonical explanation. However as a painter focusing on technique and craftsmanship more than on concepts or novelty for its own sake I find that a conscious effort to understand art’s latent benefits for our own lives is a more prolific endeavour.
With that in mind, this restrained body of still life works titled 12” x 12” focuses unpretentiously on one of painting’s strongest aspects; its potential – as an activity and as a cultural product – to create spaces of joy and contemplation; to transform the ordinary into a moment of wonder. Thus life is enriched; its hectic hassle subsides, and we become more attentive and aware that simplicity, beauty, and playfulness still have an important role to play in our world.” – Pablo Tapia
