Parrtjima – A Festival in Light

‘Parrtjima – A Festival in Light’ is the first Indigenous festival of its kind in the world and the largest ever light show in the country.

Taking its name from the Arrernte word Parrtma, meaning ‘light up’, the free 10-night event will “showcase the oldest continuous culture on earth through the newest technology on a 300-million-year-old natural canvas”, says Adam Giles, the Northern Territory’s Chief Minister and Tourism Minister.

Three original light and sound installations will feature, including a series of large 1950s-style circle skirts imprinted with the watercolour artwork of Lenie Namatjira, granddaughter of Albert Namatjira.
