Established and emerging artists from Tasmania, the United Kingdom and Western Australia respond to the cultural limitations implied by traditional map making. ‘Passages’ features mixed media, video, sculpture and furniture design. These material representations of places evade the typically cold, totalising gaze of the cartographer, and instead illuminate the intimate encounters between people and place.
Artists Susanna Castleden, Vivienne Cutbush, Linda Fredheim, Julie Gough, Laura Hindmarsh and Pip Stafford present this exhibition as participants of Contemporary Art Tasmania’s 2017 Curatorial Mentorship Program, curated by Emily Bullock.
