During a residency in 2016, Pet Projects – Dan Bourke, Andrew Varano, Gemma Weston – discovered a Ouija board scrawled behind a painting in a hotel apartment, prompting the exhibition of a four-part “documentary” film, Mixed Business, that compared statistical analysis to supernatural divination. Six years later, Pet Projects are still consumed by unanswered rhetorical questions regarding creativity and a career in the arts.
This mixed media prequel and origin story is set in a children’s activity station at a public art gallery – part cathartic exorcism, part escapist fantasy, and part excuse to vent about work.
