In ‘Unbind Me’ Sarah McEwen debates philosophical ideologies over the last 2,700 years – from Plato to Elizabeth Grosz – to present an ‘installation essay’, where both text and image are enmeshed in an intra-connected web of the past and present. McEwen examines the status quo and counter-narratives of philosophers and theorists and how their legacies have dangerous and real consequences in contemporary society, particularly in relation to gender imbalance. The exhibition includes paintings spilling with fabric, to more intimate works on paper.
