The practice of multimedia installation artist Shireen Taweel interweaves issues surrounding the construction of cultural heritage, knowledge and identity through language. Adopting traditional coppersmith techniques, as an inquisitive basis for community-focused conceptual development, the artist studies the new beginnings, that unify the future of language and culture. Her new body of work questions the evolution of code-switching in multilingual societies, focusing on the Arab, French and English cultural practices in Lebanon and how it contributes to the identity of Lebanese people in both Australia and Lebanon.
