SYNERGY: Tony Tuckson – drawing into painting

This exhibition features over sixty works on paper alongside a selection of paintings by Tony Tuckson that characterise the artist as an inexhaustible source of creative improvisation. “Tuckson’s art is a classic example of transvaluation,” says co-curator Terence Maloon, “where mess turns into articulate composition, roughness into delicacy, accident into design, clumsiness into grace, chaos into cosmos, matter into ‘mind.’”

Works range from Tuckson’s diploma painting at the National Art School, Sydney, in 1949, to his sublime abstract expressionist paintings, created between 1970 and 1973.
