The sitters of TextaQueen’s portraits are, most often, women. The sitters are frequently nude and their portraits are executed in the humble and unforgiving ‘texta’ and felt-tip pen on paper.
This new body of work at Sullivan+Strumpf sees TextaQueen face the mirror and concentrate exclusively on a series of self-portraits. The work is an exploration of the personal evolution of identity, incorporating graphic elements into largely fictional, metaphorical inner narratives.
