Too-roo-dun

‘Too-roo-dun’ is a Boonwurrung word for Bunyip, and Bunyip is a word from the Wathawurrung language. The Bunyip is an ancient water creature derived from Aboriginal mythology.

This exhibition is a fun and energetic celebration of these curious monster-like mythical beings, created using both traditional and contemporary materials including textiles, feathers, bones, bark, chicken wire and other items, by members of seven south-east Melbourne Aboriginal communities. Nine life-size Bunyips are on show with accompanying soundscapes. Curated by Lisa Waup with Baluk Arts.
