William Kentridge: Tapestries

In collaboration with Marguerite Stephens Tapestry Workshop, Annandale Galleries brings a monumental display of tapestries from William Kentridge showing dark silhouettes; the latest incarnation of the shadow figures Kentridge has deployed for years against the patterns of old maps. One of the show’s revelations is that the tapestries, made by the Marguerite Stephens Tapestry Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, using the French Gobelin high-warp technique, improve greatly upon Kentridge’s collage maquettes.

The exhibition also features new aquatint etchings and bronzes, as well as Kentridge’s 2012 film Sonnets.
