Here, three video works celebrate the act of volunteerism, elevating the participants and their work by representing a counter to the often invisible labour that volunteers contribute to the communities and spaces they serve.
Together these works sit in the realm of portraiture and draw on visual tropes of cinema; subverting the power of the male gaze through installation, film and the pleasure of ice cream; re-contextualising gallery guide roles to function as seers and oracles to the collection; and re-imagining feminist protest chants as soundtracks to their routines.
