Bringing together a range of objects from its collection, this exhibition looks back fifty years to the midpoint of a tumultuous decade – exploring conflicts, disasters and politics together with fashion, food, popular culture and sport.
From Jaws, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Picnic at Hanging Rock to brand-new colour television sets; from flared jeans, platform shoes and burnt orange-dominated fashion to the end of war in Vietnam, conflict in East Timor and Prime Minister Gough Whitlam’s dismissal, 1975 tells the complex story of a fascinating time in Australian history.
