Lucy Hersey: Earthsong

South Gippsland artist Lucy Hersey has a long-held affinity for complex terranean ecologies and quiet sciences of soil; this commissioned body of work, a fervent celebration of the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland, being guided by pedology, earth pigments, and the unseen.

Each work here is composed using local earth – gathered pigments, grounded, sifted, and held with the same care one might offer something ineffable. The landscapes of Gippsland – the rolling hills; vivid, and untouched bushland; cloudscapes that drift like slow-moving hymns – rising into view through these vast earthbound canvases.
