Twitcher

Works in Twitcher capture the beauty of birds, highlighting their fragility and our responsibility to safeguard their habitats and ensure their survival.

Ben Quilty puts the humble budgie on show in his looming, larger-than-life painting; Anna-Wili Highfield’s life-sized brolgas, made delicately from cotton paper and brass, suspend like marionettes; Leila Jeffreys’ and filmmaker Melvin J Montalban’s immersive audiovisual installation pays homage to the Australian cockatoo. Works from the Maitland collection include Peter Speight’s painted wooden sculpture Cassowary, 2007, and Todd Fuller’s hand-drawn animation Icarus on the Hill, 2017.
