Adam Laerkesen: Hypnopomp

‘Hypnopomp’ is the state of consciousness leading out of sleep, when dreams become confused with reality. Adam Laerkesen creates vivid images that evoke the lingering imagery of this state, which sits somewhere between dreams and the real world.

Laerkesen works with found objects and recycled materials to produce creatures such as mummified dogs, mounted bison and horse heads, monkeys and sculptures made purely of steam. The works create the sensation of a fantasy world grounded by ancient ritual, where creatures take part in prehistoric ceremony that resonates with our repressed primal instincts.
