Adrian Hobbs presents a new body of work comprising drawings and paintings on shaped plywood. The artist says they ‘are the result of taking formal pictorial elements and mixing them up with a bunch of principles ubiquitous to the way chaos is conceptualised within certain academic traditions… deeply tied to the craft of painting, its history too.’ At first glance the compositions appear playful and almost cartoon-like, yet Hobbs notes that while there is a gentle nod in this direction, his works find inspiration in science, philosophy and history – as a generative formula.
