Today marks the return of the annual Museum Selfie Day. On Wednesday 20 January art gallery and museum attendees will create their own self-portraits in the form of the very popular millennial art form, the ‘selfie’.
Londoner and museum blogger, Mar Dixon came up with the campaign, Museum Selfie Day, in January 2014 after visiting several museums with her young daughter. Now in its third year, this crowd-sourced, online event invites curating staff and the general public to snap a photo of themselves in front of their favorite collections, and/or art institutions, and share it on social media via Instagram and Twitter.
The main objective of the one-day event is to promote awareness of great collections of work being housed in national and regional art institutions. Taking part in Museum Selfie Day will increase participation and attendance at museums and galleries worldwide. So have your smartphone ready and get snapping!
