Not intended as a ‘high-brow’ examination of contemporary art, 20/20 focuses on creating narratives which promote points of entry – locating art in a real way, mediated by the individual presenting. Filmed in the racks of the Artbank collection store, these short talks will continue every fortnight, propagating Artbank’s Vimeo and growing social media presence.
Senior Curator Daniel Mudie Cunningham says: “There are many different ways to like and approach art that are not just based on art historical knowledge. 20/20 activates the Artbank collection by engaging public figures from the cultural sector and beyond. Twenty different works are brought to light through 20 perspectives that are enlightening and entertaining in equal measure.”
Australian identities involved in the project include Ben Quilty, Catharine Lumby, Del Kathryn Barton, Nell Schofield, Fenella Kernebone, Ian Temby and Rafael Bonachela. The videos are published online as they’re produced – check them out here.
Artbank is a government support program established in 1980 with diverse holdings of visual art by 3000 artists representing approximately 10,000 Indigenous and non-indigenous artworks. Artbank is mandated with a support and development role for visual artists through the collecting, commissioning, sharing and promotion of their work through a leasing program and other project based activities.
