Tracing the traditions of embroidery across time, this exhibition, which features over 100 exquisitely detailed embroideries from 400 years ago to now, explores the origins of the textile-based craft from its historical anchoring in religious application and oppressive domestic duties across Europe and Georgian England, through to the more recent powerful expressions of social and political values in contemporary Australia, as well as the renowned couture of Paolo Sebastian created in Adelaide. Among the works are rare 18th century waistcoats and other fashionable regalia from the past.
