John Dent: Gouaches

Turning to the freedom and spontaneity of gouache, John Dent – known for his painting and printmaking of intimate interiors – ventures into the landscape.

Inspired by the artist’s travels around Australia between 1988 and 2000, Gouaches continues Dent’s atmospheric exploration of wavy coastlines, serpentine roads and rivers, sweeping plains, rolling hills, panoramic vistas, and pastoral idylls and nocturnal tableaux. Saturated in colour – through coastal aquamarine, the dry golden of hills, gentle lilac, and pastoral emerald, the artist creates a poetic sense of place.
