Joe Furlonger is well known for his expressive, painterly figurative images and vast Australian landscapes. Employing a highly physical method, he applies swathes of colour with vigorous sweeps of the brush, inspired by artists such as Matisse, Picasso, and Ian Fairweather.
Drawn from the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Collection, this touring exhibition traces the artist’s career through a range of media from painting ceramics, sculpture, and drawing over several themes ‘The figure and the beach’; ‘The circus’; ‘Landscapes and seascapes’; and ‘Mother and child’.
