Indonesian-born artist Fiona Tan was raised in Australia and now lives and works in Amsterdam. Known for her film and video work she explores identity and memory, the representation of the self and others, and our place in history and time. Tan investigates the relationship between Asia and Europe with her film Nellie (2013), a narrative of the imagined life of a forgotten woman, Cornelia van Rijn, who at the age of 15 emigrated from Amsterdam to Batavia, now Jakarta, and was the daughter of the 17th century painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn.
