John R. Walker: The End of All Our Exploring

In October 2013, Walker travelled by car from Braidwood to Broken Hill and beyond, documenting the new landscapes he encountered in gouache on paper. Back in his studio, he continues to paint those landscapes, along with ones closer to home – from a bend in the Darling River to the Doughboy hills near Braidwood.

In Walker’s typical style, scrawling lyrical marks play against expansive washes to create representations that flirt with abstraction – striving to evoke that feeling of being in and moving through a landscape. The exhibition coincides with a survey of Walker’s major canvasses at Orange Regional Gallery.
