Kate Scardifield: Soft Topologies

‘Soft Topologies’ considers the points of convergence between the body and the practice of charting atmospheric space. While participating as the 2017 MAAS Research Fellow, Kate Scardifield explored The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences’ (MAAS) collection of 19th century astronomical artefacts.

Re-imagined adaptable sculptural objects and textiles in precisely pleated and folded forms become the subject of a speculative game of measurement and observation whereby the artist, with a sail-maker, choreographer and percussionist, performs a series of manipulations for anatomical enquiry.
