Kawita Vatanajyankur: Machinized

With the fluorescence of citric yellows, lime greens and sapphire pinks, the work of Thai-Australian artist, Kawita Vatanajyankur can appear almost advertorial.

‘Machanized’ is a new series of visually stunning performance videos where Vatanajyankur transforms herself into food production equipment, restaging processes such as boxing eggs and weighing leafy greens. Seductive and humorous, these works aim to capture the viewer’s attention and alert them to social and cultural ideologies related to the value of everyday labour women endure, particularly in her Thai homeland. Disguised within the choreography, Vatanajyankur pays testament to female grace and resilience in the face of injustice and invisibility within a technologically accelerating world.
