Louise Owen: MIRAGE – desert forms and images

Sculptural installations, paintings and works on paper. Ideas, materials and imagery gleaned from frequent trips through outback Australia; ‘spinifex mounds’ of painted toothpicks placed on desert sand, reminiscent of an extraordinary vista in the Flinders Ranges; a painting using ochre to describe the limitless space, dazzling light and after-light of a salt lake. A ‘bed’ of emu feathers on a stand of ti-tree, as a place for solace and calm.

Exploring associations with the environment that are subjective and archetypal; using images, materials and forms which are familiar or symbolic. The works reflect upon memory, loss, wonder and hope.
