Sydney artist Lucas Davidson works with photography, video and installation. His latest exhibition ‘Animal Magnetism’, at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, presents video-based work. The edited, looped and reconfigured multi-screen assemblages of 1950s footage of techniques used by hypnotists investigates the alluring power that screen-based technologies have on contemporary culture.
The mesmerising nature and appeal of the screen aims to draw the viewer in, asking what it means to think, see and filter effect through the digital, and to question ways in which new technologies are impacting our relationship with perception, social relations and reality in the digital age.
