Michelle Campbell: Urban

Michelle Campbell’s ‘Urban’ is a reaction to the seemingly endless desire for urban development and subdivision, often to the detriment of communities and streetscapes of Perth’s suburban neighbourhoods. It explores a sense of place and history and the personal connection we have to our homes and the suburbs we live in as an extension of self.

Campbell’s paintings are presented amongst the sounds and symbols of suburban environments: artificial lawn and commonplace plastic outdoor furniture, suggesting the home as a sanctuary from outside fears, both real and imagined.
