This group exhibition is held in association with Mimili Maku Arts, an indigenous arts community located in the Everard Ranges, 500km southwest of Alice Springs. Mimili Maku Arts supports many artists living traditionally on surrounding homelands. Bush trips to country and important sites keep the Tjukurpa alive and pulsating across the canvas.
The artists represented in the show include Milatjari Pumani – the matriarch of the Mimili community who is widely respected for her knowledge of law and country – and her daughters Ngupulya Pumani and Betty Pumani. As well as Tuppy Ngintja Goodwin who depicts the story of two sisters, ‘Kungka Kutjara’. Tuppy paints a conceptual map of the country showing marks of the sister’s travels and their sacred presence in the land.
