Arguably one of the country’s most highly regarded artists, Cummings makes work that is influenced by the Australian landscape – or an idea formed by a place – but the process is led by intuition. Cummings delights in a landscape that slowly reveals itself to her and this reflects in the way that she paints and draws her pictures.
This exhibition present a suite of large scale paintings made over a 20-year period depicting the many and varied landscapes she has visited from her home in the rural outskirts of Sydney to the far western arid zones of New South Wales and beyond. The exhibition is accompanied by a selection of new etchings and works on paper.
