Australian Galleries presents an exhibition of etchings and related paintings by Fred Williams. With most artists one might expect the prints to be copied from the canvas, but Williams was a master of both these mediums, so the creative relationship between versions of an image is complex and interdependent. Rather than imitating a finished artwork Williams used pinned up prints for visual reference, and proceeded with more paintings and refinements to further develop a work, reimagining fresh versions when exploring the possibilities of the other media.
